Speech-Language Pathology

Program Description
With a 100 percent passage rate on national exams, students in the Speech-Language Pathology program gain invaluable clinical experience in a diverse campus setting. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders' program prepares graduates for rewarding jobs in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing functions and their disorders.
Students start their education at OU's Norman campus and take two years of preparatory classes in the sciences and humanities. In their second year of college, students can apply to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Speech-Language Pathology program located in Oklahoma City. OUHSC's Speech-Language Pathology program is the only program in the state.
The Master of Arts degree program prepares students for professional work in Speech-Language Pathology in schools, clinics and hospitals. Students graduate with a degree that meets all of the requirements of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's Certificate of Clinical Competence.
Degree Options
Speech-Language Pathology students graduate with either a Master of Science or Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology degree. Students can also choose to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in Speech-Language Pathology degree.
Interests & Skills
Speech-Language Pathology students typically have interests in working with people, science, mathematics, communication and medicine. High school preparation should include study in biology, physics and mathematics.

Speech-Language Pathology students have had a 100 percent passage rate on the National Praxis in Speech-Language Pathology for the past several years.
Students benefit from the program's setting on the OUHSC campus, which situates the program in a vibrant medical community. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders also has a full speech-language clinic with several interdisciplinary units: Communication Disorders Conference, Cleft-Palate-Craniofacial Clinic, Central Auditory Processing Clinic, Helping Our Parents Succeed Program, Language Enrichment and Pre-Kindergarten Success Program and the distinguished Neuro Clinic.
Program Accreditation
The graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
