The Student Advisory Board is an important way for OU students to get involved with OU’s literary magazine World Literature Today. It serves OU students who want leadership experience and who may be interested in magazine and book publishing as a career.

SAB members advise the WLT editors on the magazine’s content and its appeal to students. On occasion, the SAB has even suggested possible directions for the magazine’s future, and over the last decade many of WLT’s changes and advances have come from SAB advice and suggestions.

What is SAB?

The Student Advisory Board is a student-led organization at OU that advises the WLT staff about improving the magazine, brainstorming ideas for events and promotions, and raising WLT’s visibility on campus. The SAB meets four times during the fall semester, and members will receive special access to invitation-only events during the 2016 Neustadt International Festival of Literature & Culture (October 26-28).

Although WLT is known primarily as OU’s magazine of international literature and culture, our offices in Monnet Hall have also become a vibrant humanities center for OU students. Working with hundreds of students a year, WLT also sponsors a magazine publishing course, a student-led book club, student fellowships (in association with our Neustadt and Puterbaugh courses), student research grants, and other literary events throughout the year.

Many SAB members have gone on to work in publishing careers—we actively support students’ professional development by writing letters of recommendation, helping them build their résumés, and providing networking opportunities via our widespread contacts at OU and in Oklahoma, the U.S., and even abroad.
