Ervin is among 438 students nationwide to be selected this year out of more than 1,200 nominees representing 438 institutions.
Her selection brings OU’s total number of Goldwater Scholarship winners to 59 since the inception of the scholarship in 1986.

Named for former U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater, the Goldwater Scholarships are awarded to college sophomores and juniors on the basis of potential and intent to pursue research careers in the fields of the natural sciences, engineering and mathematics. The one- and two-year scholarships cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year.
Ervin, of Oklahoma City, plans to eventually obtain a doctorate in chemical engineering. She has conducted environmentally focused research to contribute to environmental policy change. While at OU, her mentors have been Sepideh Razavi, assistant professor of chemical, biological and materials engineering, and Elton Lima Correia, a graduate research assistant in the School of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering.
Ervin has served as an EarthDNA Ambassador at MIT, as a Chevron Phillips Mentor, and as co-committee chair for the Halliburton Retreat and Women’s Welcome. She is a member of the OU Honors College and holds a 4.0 grade-point average. She is a recipient of the Rick Clawson Memorial Scholarship, the Douglas and Hilda Bourne Engineering Scholarship, and is an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program award winner.
Ervin attended Harding Charter Preparatory High School in Oklahoma City and is the daughter of Shegufa Adi Haubrich.
