With more than 35 years of experience in the financial services industry, including 21 years as a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in its Washington, D.C., New Jersey and New York offices, Brockwell will join OU on Dec. 1, 2021. An OU alumnus, Brockwell currently serves on the Eagle Bancorp Inc. Board of Directors and has served as a member of a variety of not-for-profit boards.
A national search was conducted for the position, attracting 44 qualified applicants. The eight members on the search committee – chaired by Vice President for Executive Affairs Sean Burrage – included administrators from the Health Sciences Center, the Office of Institutional Equity, the Price College of Business and OU Health Physicians-Tulsa, as well as faculty, staff and student representatives.
“We are excited to welcome Matt Brockwell back to the University of Oklahoma,” said OU President Joseph Harroz Jr. “He is an accomplished financial executive, corporate board member and strategic partner whose extensive knowledge and varied background, as well as his demonstrated ability to manage and develop diverse teams, make him an outstanding choice to lead OU’s financial and administrative functions. Throughout the search process, Matt’s love for his alma mater and his earnest belief in our purpose of changing lives through excellence in teaching and research became abundantly clear. His expertise and his enthusiasm will help shepherd our university to new heights.”
As senior vice president and chief financial officer, Brockwell will lead all areas of Administration and Finance for all three OU campuses. As CFO, he will have university-wide oversight of budgets, expenses, accounting and financial performance. He will also provide administrative oversight of several university departments: Information Technology, Enterprise Risk Management, Bursar Services and Student Financial Services.
During his time at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Brockwell worked with a wide range of clients including the United States Federal Reserve System, commercial banks, as well as many private equity and investment management firms. He also led business units at PricewaterhouseCoopers throughout his career, including those associated with international quality control and advising policy makers on matters related to the 2008 mortgage finance crisis.
Brockwell earned a bachelor in business administration in accounting from OU in 1983 and a master of business administration from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business in 1992. He has been a devoted OU alumnus, serving the Price College of Business as a member of both the Steed School of Accounting Board of Advisors and the Arthur B. Adams Society.
