A different kind of educational event will take place at the Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium beginning on Wednesday following the University of Oklahoma’s Commencement. This event will focus on public safety in a large venue, and will include officers from the OU Police Department and the Norman Police Department. 

The public is advised that there will be gunfire in the vicinity of the Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and the Lloyd Noble Center during the training.

For the first time in its history, OUPD in cooperation of the OU Athletic Department will host the Tacflow Academy’s Police Sniper Response to a Public Venue™ training. Taught since 2008, the curriculum has trained more than 650 federal, state and local SWAT personnel charged with protecting large intercollegiate and professional sports venues, including Super Bowl 50.  This training is not open to the public.

On Tuesday, officers will run through various scenarios and responses from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Lloyd Noble Center.

The rest of the week will see the trainees at the Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium:

• 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday
• 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Thursday
• 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday.

This opportunity allows officers to do meaningful training inside the venues in a safe manner. Officers are required to pass a qualification test before shooting live rounds in the arena or stadium. Tacflow’s bullet trapping equipment captures 100% of the projectile during training.
