Dear OU community,

We, like so many of you, are horrified by the deadly attacks that occurred at two mosques in New Zealand resulting in a significant loss of life. We join with millions of others to condemn the abhorrent acts that brought violence to the community in New Zealand and have caused great pain.

This recent act reminds us of the importance of countering Islamophobia, and other forms of racial and faith-based fear and discrimination. We send a message of support and unity to the members of the campus and global communities, particularly those of the Muslim faith, who have been deeply shaken and traumatized by these events and must begin to heal.  Furthermore, the OU Police Department and the City of Norman’s Police Department have joined us in support and solidarity with our Muslim faith community and increased patrols for those worshippers concerned about attending Friday evening prayer service (Jumu’ah).
