NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents will consider the appointment of the dean of the OU College of Arts and Sciences when it meets on Tuesday, June 19, in Oklahoma City. Agenda items for Rogers State University, Cameron University and OU will be considered beginning at 10 a.m. in the Robert M. Bird Library at the OU Health Sciences Center, 1105 N Stonewall Ave., Oklahoma City. The board’s annual planning retreat takes place on Monday, June 18, also in the Robert M. Bird Library.

The OU Board will review the recommendation of President-Designate James L. Gallogly to approve the appointment of David Wrobel as dean of the OU College of Arts and Sciences. The recommendation is made as the result of a national advertised search for the permanent dean. Wrobel joined the faculty as the Ward Merrick Chair of Western American History and professor of history in 2011. He holds master’s and doctoral degrees in American intellectual history from Ohio University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history/philosophy from the University of Kent, Canterbury, England. Prior to coming to OU, he was department chair and professor of history at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In 2005-2006, he was Senior Research Fellow in Western American History at the Beinecke Library and Lamar Center for the Study of Frontiers and Borders at Yale University. He received the prestigious 2014 Wrangler Award for his nonfiction book, “Global West, American Frontier: Travel, Empire and Exceptionalism from Manifest Destiny to the Great Depression.” Wrobel has been serving as interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences since July 1, 2017.

The OU Board also will consider approving the revised schematic design phase plans and updated programming information for the New Softball Facility project. It is anticipated that the project will include spectator seating, fan amenities, team facilities, competition lighting, and parking and other site improvements as required by the functional and operational needs of the new facility.

The next regular meeting of the OU Board of Regents is currently scheduled for Sept. 12-13 in Claremore and Tulsa.
