NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma is one of only three colleges to be honored with a 2017 CIO 100 Award, recognizing 100 organizations nationwide that have distinguished themselves by creating business value through the effective and innovative use of information technology.
OU’s IT organization has significantly evolved since 2000, transforming from a mainframe-based shop that provided limited services and support to a complex, 24/7 operation that spans multiple campuses, directly supports the academic mission and provides a comprehensive suite of technology services to every member of the OU community. OU IT is recognized as a technology leader among public universities, promoting academic excellence and administrative efficiency across all three campuses. The department’s innovative academic technology initiatives empower students to learn in cutting-edge digital environments. OU IT has also improved cost efficiency and accessibility through shared services and cloud-based technologies.

OU joins Fortune 500 companies, federal agencies, major technology firms and other groups on the CIO 100. To be considered for the 30th annual CIO 100 Awards, organizations were required to fill out an online application form detailing several key aspects of their innovative IT and business projects. Each application is evaluated and scored by two judges from CIO’s volunteer group of 53 external judges, which includes former CIOs, industry experts, business executives and academics.
