Max Westheimer Air Traffic Control Tower Wins National Award

Max Westheimer Air Traffic Control Tower at the University of Oklahoma is being honored as the 2016 recipient of the Willie F. Card Contract Tower Service Award.

The honor is presented annually to the FAA contract tower that provides excellent air traffic control services – both from a safety and customer service perspective – to all stakeholders in the local aviation community and that demonstrates a professional and courteous attitude.

“It is an honor for OU to receive this award which underlines our commitment to air safety,” said OU President David L. Boren.

“It is quite an honor for Westheimer Tower to be selected for this award out of 253 contract towers in the continental United States,” said Walt Strong, Director of Max Westheimer Airport. “I am proud to say that our controllers have flawlessly handled the mixture of heavy student pilot training and pleasure aircraft combined with a light to moderate mix of business and military traffic on a daily basis with a professional attitude that is second to none,” Strong said.

The award ceremony will be conducted at the annual FAA/AAAE/USCTA Contract Tower Workshop, June 22 to 23, in Washington, D.C.
