Aug. 27-30
1. Popsicles — for education!
Who’s going to turn down a free popsicle in the 90-degree Oklahoma heat? Not us. Head to the Oval in front of Collings Hall, where folks from the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education will help you get some heat relief at noon Thursday. In addition to popsicles, you’ll get to hear about the college’s Debt Free Teachers program.
2. Astronomy Nights in the Garden
Look to the heavens to find your Thursday night plans: scoping out the stars with the OKC Astronomy Club. The group will have their telescopes out for a summer-night stargazing session at Myriad Botanical Gardens, and everyone’s welcome. Show up between 8:30 and 10 p.m. and be ready to see stars.
3. Full lineup at the Deli
Strapped for cash? A free Thursday night show at the Deli in Norman might be right up your alley. See Kierston White, Samantha Crain, Camille Harp from 7-9 p.m. Then stick around for We Dream Dawn and Sage Cook of Elephant Revival at 10. See the Deli’s Facebook page for the rest of this weekend’s events, which include more free shows.
4. Norman Farmers’ Market
Allow us to paint you a picture of a quaint little Saturday: Pop into the Norman Farmers’ Market between 8 a.m. and noon and pick up some treats for the week. Then, if you’re feeling brunch-y, head to Main Street and fill up on the Nompton at Syrup, or down some huevos rancheros at The Diner.
5. H&8th Night Market
If you haven’t been to this larger-than-life street festival near downtown Oklahoma, now’s the perfect time to acquaint yourself. Get your fill of organic sno-cones, egg rolls, fried onion burgers and other food truck fare at the H&8th Night Market from 7-11 p.m. Friday at Hudson and 8th.
