NORMAN - Cyberspace expert Melissa Hathaway and Internet governance scholar Laura DeNardis will present complimentary public lectures as part of a “Cyber Speaker Series” sponsored by the University of Oklahoma’s College of International Studies on Monday, Oct. 26, and Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015.
Hathaway will present a lecture titled “The Data-Driven Economy as a Matter of National Security” Monday, Oct. 26, on the University of Oklahoma Norman Campus. The lecture is scheduled for 6 p.m. with a reception at 5:30 p.m. at Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.
Hathaway is a leading expert in cyberspace policy and cybersecurity. At the White House, she spearheaded the Cyberspace Policy review for President Obama and led the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative for President George W. Bush. As president of Hathaway Global Strategies LLC, she advises the U.S. and other governments, global organizations and private industries on risk management, technology investments, and cyber strategy and policy.
DeNardis, a globally noted Internet governance scholar, will present a lecture titled, “The Destabilization of Internet Governance” on Wednesday, Oct. 28, on the OU Campus. The presentation will focus on the growing loss of trust in the Internet due to government surveillance, concerns of cybersecurity breaches, implications of Internet freedom and Internet architecture in the future, among other topics. The lunch lecture is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Hester Hall, Room 145.
These events are part of the broader “Cyber Speaker Series,” which is sponsored by the College of International Studies, the Department of International and Area Studies, the Department of Political Science and the Center for Intelligence and National Security.
For the Oct. 26, lecture, parking is available in the lot west of Boyd House. Metered parking is also available in the Elm Ave. Parking Facility, just south of Catlett Music Hall. Limited seating for each presentation is available by reservation for OU students, faculty, staff and the public.
