NORMAN – New physics and astronomy facilities are among topics to be discussed by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents at its regular meeting Wednesday, Jan. 28, in Lawton.

The meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the McMahon Centennial Complex at Cameron University, 2800 West Gore Blvd., in Lawton, with items submitted by Rogers State University, followed by Cameron University and then OU.

The board will consider a recommendation to explore the feasibility of constructing new facilities for the Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics and Astronomy. The proposed project will provide new research facilities to replace obsolete laboratories and laboratory support spaces in Nielsen Hall. The project will include state-of-the-art National Institute of Standards and Technology standard research laboratories to support current and future research efforts. The facility also will provide supporting office space and may include spaces for science display and classrooms. The OU Board will discuss the need for an architectural consultant to assist the university in programming and further definition of the project scope, and to provide full professional services for the project.

The next meeting of the OU Board of Regents is currently scheduled for March 10 and 11 in Claremore and Tulsa.
