The naming of a renovated section of Bizzell Memorial Library and the naming of the education center at the School of Community Medicine at OU-Tulsa are among topics to be discussed by the OU Board of Regents at its regular meeting Monday and Wednesday, June 23 and 25, in Ardmore. The Regents’ retreat and meeting are set for June 23 through 25.

The meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Noble Foundation Conference Center, 2510 Sam Noble Parkway, with items submitted by Cameron University, followed by Rogers State University. The board will then consider two OU items: the Fiscal Year 2015 Budget Plan, Tuition and Mandatory Fee Rates for Fiscal Year 2015. The board will meet again at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the conference center’s Pavilion to consider remaining OU items.

The board will consider a recommendation to name the lower level of the Neustadt Wing of Bizzell Memorial Library, which is being renovated to become a 21st century intellectual learning center, the “Peggy V. Helmerich Collaborative Learning Center,” honoring a gift from the Helmerich Foundation. The learning center will feature informal and flexible learning spaces that can be accessed by students between classes and offer an outlet for students and professors to continue collaborations begun in the classroom. The project also includes a variety of individual and group study areas, a community room, a digital scholarship lab, and group meeting and research areas. The learning center’s environment will enhance student-to-student and faculty-to-student interaction, active learning and immediate feedback, all essential practices for promoting student learning.

The OU Board also will consider a proposal related to the construction of and naming of a simulation and education center at the School of Community Medicine at the OU-Tulsa Schusterman Center. In October, the board approved the expansion of the School of Community Medicine M.D. Program Track at the College of Medicine, Tulsa in cooperation with the University of Tulsa. The center will provide tools for critical health care training using the latest technological advances and state-of-the-art facilities. The project will create a simulation center, clinical skills laboratories, and student activity and study modules in a new two-story addition to Schusterman Center Building #1.

The next meeting of the OU Board of Regents is currently scheduled for Sept. 17 and 18 in Tulsa and Claremore.
