University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren and the OU Class of 2017 gathered Sunday to honor one of OU’s newest traditions, the class photo on historic Owen Field.
The newest members of the Sooner family and President Boren were joined on the field by Athletic Director Joe Castiglione, Associate Athletic Director Nicki Moore, Head Football Coach Bob Stoops, Head Women’s Basketball Coach Sherri Coale, Head Softball Coach Patty Gasso, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Clarke Stroud, University College Dean Nicole Campbell and the Sooner Schooner.
Members of The Pride of Oklahoma and OU’s spirit squads formed the white outline of the interlocking OU, and the more than 4,000 members of the Class of 2017 wearing their crimson Class of 2017 shirts completed the internationally recognized logo. Also participating were members of the flag corps, carrying the OU flags and the flags of the Big 12.
The photo took place the evening before the first day of classes for the Class of 2017. President Boren officially welcomed the members of the class of 2017 during the New Sooner Academic Convocation last Thursday and congratulated the freshmen on being the highest academically ranked class in OU history with an average ACT of 26.2.
