The annual OU School of Art & Art History Senior Capstone Exhibition will open on Sunday, May 5, 2013. The exhibition will be on display through May 17 at the School of Art & Art History’s Lightwell Gallery. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, May 5 from 2-4 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
“Our annual senior capstone show is the final exhibition of the academic year,” says Dr. Mary Jo Watson, director of the OU School of Art & Art History. “We are so proud of our graduating seniors. They have each worked diligently to prepare for this exhibition, and we hope OU students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the Norman community will come out to view their outstanding work and support them at the opening reception in May.”
The Senior Capstone Exhibition features the work of graduating Seniors from all visual art programs offered at the School of Art & Art History. Work from students studying Studio Art (printmaking, painting, sculpture, and ceramics) and Media Art (art & technology. photography, film and video) will be on display in the Lightwell Gallery on the second floor of the School of Art & Art History (Fred Jones Art Center - FJC.) Visual Communication (design) students will exhibit their work on the first floor in room 103.
This exhibition is presented annually in conjunction with a capstone course required for all graduating seniors receiving a bachelor of fine arts degree from OU. Each student creates a body of work to represent the culmination of their studies at OU and displays a portion of this portfolio during the Capstone Exhibition. The students also work closely with their professors to organize and install the exhibition and are responsible for every aspect of the show. This offers our students the valuable hands-on experience they need to succeed as artists post-graduation.
The School of Art & Art History’s mission is to prepare each of our students for success nationally and internationally as artists, designers, scholars, teachers, and influential patrons of all the arts.
The Lightwell Gallery is located on the second floor of the School of Art & Art History (Fred Jones Jr. Art Center) at 520 Parrington Oval in the OU Arts District. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and closed on weekends and OU holidays. The University of Oklahoma is an equal opportunity institution.
