Pediatric Epilepsy To Be Topic Of Lecture

Lecture Series Raises Awareness For Pediatric Epilepsy

Leading pediatric epileptologists will give a lecture and panel discussion.

Parents and caregivers of children with epilepsy and seizures can hear from some of the country’s leading pediatric epileptologists at a lecture and panel discussion scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 19, at OU Children’s Hospital. The lecture is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in the Rainbolt Auditorium in the Samis Family Education Center.

Children’s Hospital Comprehensive Epilepsy Program in Memphis, will present the lecture, “Non-(Antiepileptic) Drug Treatment Options for Seizures and Epilepsy,” and serve on the panel. Also serving on the panel are Dr. Yu-tze Ng, Presbyterian Health Foundation Chair of Child Neurology and Director of Epilepsy for OU Children’s Physicians; Dr. Cherie Herren, staff pediatric epileptologist and assistant professor at OU Children’s Physicians; and other special guests.

The lecture is part of the Isaiah Stone Pediatric Epilepsy Lecture Series. OU alumni Renzi and Lee Anne Stone founded the lecture series in memory of their son, Isaiah, who was 11 months old when he died May 17, 2010, from complications related to pediatric epilepsy. The lecture series aims to bring awareness to pediatric epilepsy, which affects an estimated 7,000 Oklahoma children.

“Seeing my child suffer through a seizure is one of the worst experiences of my life. Lee Anne and I can honor Isaiah’s short life by helping raise resources for the Isaiah Stone Fund at Children’s Hospital Foundation to provide comfort and help for caregivers and eventually find a cure for this awful disease,” said Renzi Stone.
