The University of Oklahoma claimed another “national championship” recently when Pride of Oklahoma Feature Twirler Megan McGeary won the 2012 College Miss Majorette of America title.

“We are very proud of Megan McGeary and the high standards which she sets,” said OU President David L. Boren. “Her hard work and strong personal commitment truly help to build ‘The Sooner Spirit’.”

McGeary, an engineering senior from Altoona, Pa., won the top title in national competition among college and university twirlers. At the same competition, McGeary was named winner of the 2012 Collegiate WOW Award, which is presented to the nation’s most entertaining college twirler.

“All of us in the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band organization are very proud of Megan’s latest competitive achievement,” said Brian Britt, band director. “Throughout her tenure as the Pride’s Feature Twirler, Megan has embodied the Pride’s mission as a great ambassador for our university, a tireless supporter of the Sooners and a world-class entertainer for Sooner fans across the country. Megan trained very hard to earn the title 2012 College Miss Majorette of America. We’re glad to see that the MMA judges discovered what Sooner fans already knew, we have the best Feature Twirler in the country!”

McGeary, who will be returning to the football field this fall for her fourth year as Feature Twirler, has been a competitive twirler singe the age of 3 and has earned numerous championships and honors throughout her career. She plans to graduate in December 2012 and hopes to find a job in law enforcement or enter graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in business administration.
