The University of Oklahoma has received a $1.5 million gift as the first distribution of what is expected to total $3.7 million from the estate of the late OU alumnus Crockett H. Page, M.D., to establish an endowed scholarship fund in the College of Medicine.

OU President David Boren made the announcement at the December meeting of the OU Board of Regents.  The gift boosts OU’s $10 million College of Medicine Campaign to more than $7.1 million.

“We are deeply grateful for the generosity of Dr. Page,” Boren said.  “His legacy gift will help educate the next generations of deserving medical students.”

At Dr. Page’s request, all of his estate gift will be directed to the College of Medicine’s Second Century Campaign for Scholarships.  The scholarship fund will be named in memory of his grandmother, Kjeston Moss Hildreth, who lived from 1886 to 1958 and to whom Dr. Page attributed any success he achieved in life.  

He grew up in Oklahoma City and earned two degrees from OU, including his undergraduate degree in chemistry in 1958 and his medical degree in 1961.  

He spent his medical career in the U.S. Navy, specializing in family medicine and dermatology.  Dr. Page died July 3, 2012, at the age of 77 in Albany, Ga., where he lived after his retirement from the Navy.   

Though he lived in Georgia for many years, he maintained close ties to and an affection for his alma mater and was an avid Sooner football fan.
