Off-Campus Resources

Off-Campus Student Mental Health Resources

The following is a list of off campus mental health resources for OU students including assessment and testing, mental health and therapy, psychiatry, and substance abuse treatment resources.

Community Mental Health Centers and Therapy

Community mental health centers provide an array of mental health services, typically including individual therapy, psychiatric services, and case management. While other individual providers or group practices may provide other mental health services, such as couples' therapy, family therapy, and psychiatric services.

*Please consult with individual providers regarding flexible pay schedules and/or sliding-scale fees based on your ability to pay,

Assessment

When calling a community provider...

  • We recommend confirming the practice can meet your psychological testing needs (see list above) as not all assessment providers will automatically include the above components we require at the UCC.
  • Please call to confirm availability of these providers as availability can often change.

ASD = Autism Spectrum Disorder

ADHD = Attention Deficit Disorder

LD = Learning Disabilities

Psychiatry

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in the treatment of mental health concerns, primarily through the prescription of medication and medication management. Psychiatrists can evaluate and assess both mental and physical aspects of psychological concerns. These providers can provide consultation around mental health medications, render diagnoses, prescribe medication and follow your care while you are utilizing medication for treatment of your mental health concerns.

Substance Abuse Treatment

These centers provide individual and group therapy around substance use/abuse related concerns or other behavioral addictions, such as gambling or gaming addiction. These centers recognize that substance abuse often co-occurs with other mental health concerns and focuses on the intersections of substance abuse and mental health. Some substance abuse treatment centers may offer additional forms of therapy/support such as partnered therapy, family therapy, medication assisted treatment, and referral services for inpatient rehabilitation, if needed.

*Please consult with individual providers/centers regarding flexible pay schedules and/or sliding-scale fees based on your ability to pay.

If you are looking for stimulant medication prescription at the UCC...

  • full psychological evaluation for ADHD is required. Please discuss this with the examiner, as they may not always complete a full psychological evaluation.
  • Please let the examiner know that your psychological evaluation should include
    • A full cognitive assessment (not brief)
    • A brief or full achievement assessment
    • Data related to executive functioning and behavioral symptoms
    • Confirmation of a DSM diagnosis of ADHD
    • Within the last 5 years (reports older than 5 years will not be accepted)
  • Our psychiatrists will not be able to prescribe stimulant medication unless a copy of a full psychological evaluation (meeting the criteria above) has been received, reviewed, and approved.
  • Evaluations received at the UCC that do not meet the criteria above will be denied, which will prohibit psychiatrists at the UCC from prescribing stimulant medications.
