THRIVE Peer Health Educators

THRIVE: Mental Health Peer Health Educators!


Students who are passionate about mental health and advocating for a healthier campus scommunity should consider applying to the University Counseling Center's THRIVE program. Peer Health Educators will provide wellness and mental health outreach initiatives for the OU community and host events throughout the year including the following areas: 

  • Self-Care
  • OU/Norman Mental Health Resoucres
  • Coping with Anxiety and Depression
  • University Counseling Center Tablings
  • And More

Applications for THRIVE Peer Health Educators are currently open. The following is the preliminary application to be a peer health educator for THRIVE. The application takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

THRIVE BENEFITS

THRIVE members have the opportunity to gather or improve the following skills and experience: 

  • Enhancement of leadership and communication skills (i.e., public speaking, project management, community organizing, etc.)
  • Knowledge of stress management, healthy relationships, and conflict resolution, among other wellness related topics unique to graduate and professional students.
  • Larger understanding of mental, emotional and physical wellness.  
  • Understanding of the function of the University Counseling Center as well as other supportive services offered at OU. 
  • Potential to earn academic internship credit.

THRIVE GOALS INCLUDE

  • Educating campus about resources and services available to OU students through the UCC 
  • Support campus students in accessting mental health education and support led by student peers
  • Developing, applying, and refining leadership and professional skills in a supportive and practical experience  
  • Offering workshops , education, and outreach that focus on wellness, mental health, and preventative strategies 
  • Reducing the stigma associated with seeking mental health resources and services for college students

When will I hear about my application?

Applications will be reviewed mid-fall semester and students will be contacted about their application status and interviews will be held in mid-November. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 and be a registered OU-Norman Student, make at least a two-semester commitment to THRIVE, and commit to 5-10 hours per/week of role responsibilities. 

Partial or incomplete applications will not be reviewed for the second step in the application process. Qualified applicants will be contacted for an in-person group interview on November 13th and should take an hour.
