Happy Teacher Project

An interdisciplinary research team at the University of Oklahoma is leading a new approach aimed at improving Head Start teachers’ well-being. This project was started in 2021 and is funded by a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Happy Teacher Project takes a holistic view of physical, psychological, and professional well-being, as well as the impact of workplace conditions for teachers in Oklahoma. For 2023, the project will focus on programs in Tulsa/OKC in the fall, and rural programs in the spring of 2024.

Principal investigator is Dr. Kyong-Ah Kwon; co-principal investigators are Dr. Diane Horm, Dr. Tim Ford, Dr. Mia Kile, Dr. Brenda Lloyd-Jones, Dr. Yong Ju Jung, Dr. Seulki Rachel Jang, and Dr. Le Wang; Project Director is Hanna Lee; Wellness Coaches are Amy Brandley, Cara Daniels, Anna Eubanks, Dina Fox, Blanca Gonzalez, Anna Keltner, Cathy Latta, Kathy Mercer, Dani Smith, and Michelle Schnelle. Part-time Research Associate Candice Morrow is providing support to the project for 2023. Â
