Navigating Campus

Getting around the OU Norman-campus can be a daunting.  You need to plan for where to park (free and permit-required options available), using the campus shuttle, and the distance between buildings.  We recommend you consider various options to navigate campus. 2023-2024 parking permits go on sale Monday, July 24th!

Academics

The University is working with several in and out-of-state two-year institutions to develop major specific athways that articulate every course needed for a seemless transition and timely graduation. Pathways will soon be posted here.

Canvas (canvas.ou.edu) is the primary learning management system used by instructors on campus. Through Canvas, you can access course syllabi, submit assignments, send messages to other users and see grade information.  For help with Canvas, log-in to canvas.ou.edu and click the Help button in the lower-left corner

Your submitted transcript(s) are reviewed by the Office of Admissions and Recruitment. The specific transfer credit awarded is then added to your new academic record. You can research specific equivalencies online through https://www.ou.edu/admissions/apply/transfer-credits/transfer-equivalencies.

Every major and minor has degree checksheet that outlines all degree requirements.  These are reviewed and published annually.  Go to https://ou-public.courseleaf.com/academic-majors/ to review and download your major(s) and minor(s). 

Located in downtown Oklahoma City, The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, is home seven health professional Colleges; Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Graduate Studies serving approximately 4,000 students in more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The Honors College offers enriching interdisciplinary curriculum through its diverse programs in a full range of academic pursuits. Honors classes are limited in size (typically 22 students or less), lending to a more discussion-based curriculum. Facilities offer students a private computer lab, study areas, classrooms and libraries, as well as one-on-one advising, reading groups, research opportunities, and scholarships. There is no additional cost to participate in the Honors Curriculum.  Students completing the Honors College curriculum requirements will have a degree designation of cum Laude (3.4-3.59), Magna cum Laude (3.6-3.79), or Summa cum Laude (3.8-4.0). 

Transfer student are eligible to apply if you have earned fifteen or more hours of total transfer credit with a GPA of 3.40 or higher.

OU offers over 160 majors through thirteen degree-granting collleges.  This can make selecting a major rather daunting.  Whether you are trying to find a major that fits your career goals or trying to combine your varied interests, the Major and Career Exploration office can provide you assessment tools to one-on-one coaching.

Many students enroll at community colleges and then transfer courses to a university toward a bachelor’s degree (without first completing their associate degree). Reversing this process and transferring courses from the university back to the community college, is called Reverse Transfer.

Students who transfer to a university before completing an associate degree and who have earned at least 15 credit hours from the community college may benefit from Reverse Transfer.

Our education abroad programs allows all OU students the opportunity to study in over 80 countries paying OU tuition and fees while continuing to receive scholarships and financial aid.

Academic Support

OU's Academic Life Coaching is one-on-one, free campus-wide mentoring program that helps you identify stressors and establish goals for academic success and degree completion. There is no cost and meetings are build around your availability.  This FAQ page will help further explain.  Schedule your first session through ALC's online student request form.  

If you require any learning accommodations to be successful in courses, reach out to OU’s Accessibility and Disability Resources office (ou.edu/drc) this week. The ADRC provides those with disabilities the tools needed to have equal access to educational opportunities at the University of Oklahoma. The ADRC also offers courtesy services for those with a temporary medical condition (i.e., pregnancy, broken hand/arm, etc.).

The Compass Network assists undergraduate students facing a variety of issues and barriers that may impact their success or degree completion. Team members work collaboratively with University partners campus-wide to idenfity support.

IT offers several services from Canvas assistance to free software.  Read more about what they can do to help you in and outside the classroom.

OU offers multiple tutoring centers across campus to assist students with writing to math.  Trained peer tutors provide direct in-person, and virtual assistance.  Action Tutoring includes several weekly established sessions by faculty.

Veteran Student Services operates independently on each OU campus. Each office is provided to cater to the needs of student veterans enrolled in academic programs offered by campus. Please contact the office associated with your degree program. The experts in each office will guide/refer you to additional people you may need to speak with.

Advising

Academic Advising is one of the key components in reaching your goal of graduation. Your academic advisor is someone who can

  • help you in selecting a major and career,
  • monitor your academic progress,
  • provide information in designing, developing, and implementing individual academic plans,
  • provide you with letters of reference when you are applying for graduate programs or looking for employment, and
  • link you to resources in getting connected on campus and in the community.

Campus Involvement

As the official student organization for transfer students, OATS aims to celebrate and assist transfer students in connecting with other transfer students and across campus. OATS fall meetings and events will be announced soon via social media and oats@ou.edu. Stay tuned via Facebook

Our Student Life office is located in the Oklahoma Memorial Union, suite 370.  Stop in to speak to someone about exactly what best fits your needs, interests, and dreams.

T-SAB is a 10-12 undergraduate student board that serves as a resource for the Provost to better understand transfer students individual experiences from the application process through their final semester. Students must be able to commit to six monthly meetings (September - November and February - April).  Members are selected annually.

Our Student Affairs office works to provide you a comprehensive list of outside of the classroom campus events, engagement opportunities and helpful resources.

Financial

Crimson Commitment guarantees scholarships and grants to cover tuition and average fees for an OU transfer student who qualifies for and receives Oklahoma's Promise and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa or a participant of the Ticket to Rose program at Rose State College.

Tuition and fees will vary based on major.

The Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for nearly all types of financial aid including federal, state, and institutional aid. The purpose of the FAFSA is to determine a family's ability to pay for college according to a federal calculation. The result is called the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). This figure is used by Financial Aid Services to determine how much and what types of aid may be awarded.

There are several ways to seek scholarship assistance. 

The Centralized Academic Scholarship Hub, or CASH for short, is the premier place for current and continuing students to apply for university scholarships. Open to all students enrolled in the current academic year, applications are submitted in the current academic year for consideration with award disbursement in the next academic year.

The OU Board of Regents annually reviews and approves tuition and fees for all students before July 1st.  View current academic year rates.

Tickets

Sooner athletic events are a big part of the OU experience.

Students receive free admission to all athletic events, except football and men’s basketball. Learn more about using your OU ID and purchasing tickets

Student artistis within our nationally recognized Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts offer various theatrical productions that include dance, drama, opera and musicals as well as art shows throughout the year.  Review thie Fine Arts ENGAGE calendar for this year's scheduled shows. The box office is located in the Catlett Music Center, 500 W. Boyd St., Norman, OK 73019.

Wellness

Fit & Rec provides indoor and outdoor activities to meet your recreational and fitness needs.  This includes the Sarkeys Fitness Center, Murray Case Sells Swim Complex, and recreation fields. Download the Fit+Rec App to learn about intramurals, fitness classes, announcements and more.

OU Health Services offers a variety of on-campus medical services by board-certified physicians, physician assistance, nurse practitioners, medical assistance, physical therapists, counselors, and pharmasistcs in family medicine, sports medicine, and disease prevention and treatement.  The clinic and pharmacy is open Monday through Friday 8am-5pm CST.  Schedule in-person and telehealth appointments by calling (405) 325-4441.
