The OU LGBTQ+ Alumni Society fosters connections between the University of Oklahoma’s LGBTQ+ alumni and the broader OU community while supporting current LGBTQ+ students through scholarships, internships, and personal and professional development opportunities. Dedicated to building a strong network, the LGBTQ+ Alumni Society helps graduates stay connected and give back to OU in meaningful ways.
Each year, the society awards scholarships to outstanding LGBTQ+ student leaders. Applications are available through the Centralized Academic Scholarship Hub, with a February deadline.
The LGBTQ Studies Minor provides students with an intersectional analysis of how LGBTQ identities and community have been (and continue to be) shaped historically, socially, philosophically, culturally, medically, and scientifically. It creates a space for critical inquiry around how sexual and gender minorities are affected by society's normative perceptions and practices, while also exploring ways various LGBTQ communities and individuals have responded.
Please note that WGS majors cannot also receive a minor in LGBTQ studies because the two degrees are offered through the same department.
Norman Pride is committed to working with our community partners to provide safe spaces and create events to celebrate and strengthen our LGBTQ2SIA+ community and the diversity that defines the city of Norman. In addition to hosting our annual Pride Weekend, we promote community engagement by organizing and hosting smaller local events throughout the year.
Freedom Oklahoma advocates and organizes across Oklahoma and within the 39 sovereign tribal nations that call this land home to build a future where all Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and fuller spectrum of people whose sexuality or gender or romantic identity exists beyond a heteronormative, binary framework (2SLGBTQ+), have the safety to thrive.
The mission of PFLAG Norman is to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. Our chapter fulfills this mission by building on a foundation of loving families united with LGBTQIA2S+ people and allies who support one another, and to educate ourselves and our communities to speak up as advocates for all LGBTQIA2S+ people.
