When will I be notified about my application?
We aim to notify applicants in mid-January regarding the status of their application.
Are there costs associated with HSLC?
The cost of attending HSLC is $200. This covers the cost of t-shirts, lodging and food during the conference. We do offer full and partial need-based tuition waivers for students requiring financial assistance. An additional tuition waiver application is included in the general camper application.
We will also work with schools to accept purchase orders if schools are covering the costs for students to attend.
Who can attend HSLC?
HSLC is designed for high school juniors that are interested in learning more about becoming better leaders, discovering ways to impact their schools and communities, as well as applying for and attending college. Applicants do not need to be from Oklahoma or interested in attending the University of Oklahoma. Most importantly, students do not need to hold any leadership roles in their school or have prior leadership experience. HSLC seeks to help all students realize their leadership potential!
How many students from one school can attend?
There is no fixed number placed on camper attendance from one school. The number can fluctuate based on the amount of schools that apply and students from various schools.
Do students have to be recommended by a counselor to attend?
They do not. We want to make sure that everyone has access to the application and that they have the opportunity to apply. We may contact their references or high school counselors to follow up with applications, but no recommendation is necessary.
What should I bring to HSLC?
Upon receiving your notification of selection, you will be told exactly what to bring with you, but you only need the basics for the weekend. You will need toiletries, comfortable shoes, and clothes for the weekend. You will be given a t-shirt to wear for one day of the conference.
What can I get out of this conference?
HSLC is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you won't want to miss!. At the conference, you will learn so much about yourself and your leadership style, and how you can use your own strengths and skills to impact the community around you in a positive way. HSLC attendees have gone on to make signficant impacts in their schools, pursue higher education and attain incredibly succesful careers.
The conference is run completely by undergraduate students at the University of Oklahoma who have a passion for leadership and high school students. HSLC staff will be there to help you every step of the way during and after the conference!
What safety precautions does HSLC take for attendees?
The student to college staff member ratio will be 3:1. All HSLC counselors interacting with students have passed a background check. Additionally, we will have staff members from the Office of Student Life at the University of Oklahoma onsite during the entirety of the conference.
