Henderson-Tolson Cultural Center

The Henderson-Tolson Cultural Center (HTCC) is designed to create educational, political, and/or social awareness regarding issues of diversity for the University community, celebrating a multi-cultural student body and meeting the facility needs of a University organization and student groups on campus.

Events may be held daily at the HTCC between the hours of 7 AM - 11 PM.

Space Priority

Interior space at the HTCC shall be reserved through the Campus Scheduling Office and is assigned in the order requests are received. Priority for use of the HTCC goes to cultural groups associated with the office of Student Life. 

  • Priority of space is given in the following order (starting with the highest priority): 
    1. Black Student Association, Henderson Scholars Program, National Pan-Hellenic Council, NHPC Individual chapters
      • These groups may reserve space at any time in the JTMC for up to 2 years in advance.
    2. RSOs registered under the categories: Cultural or Multicultural Greek Council, OU Cousins
      • These groups may reserve space up to 1 year in advance.
    3. Campus Activities Council, Interfraternity Council, Independent Greek Council, Panhellenic Association, Union Programming Board
      • These groups may reserve space on a semester-by-semester basis. Space reservations will be allowed for the respective semester on the Monday preceding the first week of classes for the semester.
    4. All other RSOs and university departments.
      • These groups may reserve space on a semesterly basis. Space reservations will be allowed for the respective semester on the first day of classes for the semester.

Available Spaces

In the HTCC, there are two Multipurpose Rooms on the first floor and a small lounge with a large meeting table on the second floor.

If room furnishings are added to a space by Reserving Party, the room should be returned to the empty configuration at the conclusion of the event or may face additional fees.

Named in honor of Dr. George Henderson and his countless contributions as a groundbreaking professor, civil rights pioneer in higher education, and internationally revered race relations and civil rights scholar. 

The space features a large mural on the East wall with small windows on each side of the room.

The space is equipped with a large, mounted television and speakers. Connection to the television/speaker are made with an HDMI or VGA/AUX cord.

Named in honor of Dr. Melvin B. Tolson, Jr. who broke barriers of racial discrimination in higher education, served as a role model showing the erudition that African Americans could achieve, and enthralled students with his enthusiastic teaching.

The space features a large mural on the East wall and can be separated into two rooms with a divider.
