RSO Registration

All student organizations at the University of Oklahoma are required to register as an OU Registered Student Organization (RSO).

Registered organizations receive benefits from the University of Oklahoma including access to SGA funds, on-campus financial account, free or discounted reservations of University facilities such as the Oklahoma Memorial Union, the ability to publicize on campus, an assigned mailbox in the Conoco Student Leadership Center, sponsorship opportunities from University departments, and more

Before registering a student organization, please make sure you are aware of the policies.

  2. Review the Group Details form. It is pre-filled from last year's registration logo, mission, categories. Update anything that isn't greyed out.

Greek Life Organizations

All Greek-lettered organizations in Fraternity and Sorority Programs and Services (FSPS) in the Office of Student Life are required to register as an RSO and serve under a governing council. You can follow the same instructions above for renewing an RSO. Please contact Kylie Frisby at kylie.frisby@ou.edu for more information.

SGOS provides governing document templates to help student organizations create clear and effective constitutions and bylaws. These templates are designed to meet University requirements while giving organizations the flexibility to customize their documents to fit their mission, structure, and goals.

Constitution & Bylaws

Organizational governing documents, such as constitutions and bylaws, are essential to the success and sustainability of a student organization. SGOS provides governing document templates to help student organizations create clear and effective constitutions and bylaws. These templates are designed to meet University requirements while giving organizations the flexibility to customize their documents to fit their mission, structure, and goals.

Here are some important reasons and guidelines to consider when developing your governing documents:

  • Governing documents serve as a central reference point for questions from officers and members.
  • These documents should be shared with your officers and members at the beginning of each academic year and be readily accessible to your membership.
  • Constitutions and bylaws can contain key elements of an organization's operational standards, including membership and officer requirements, committees, elections, finances, and member or officer removal processes.
  • Governing documents should be amendable, and the amendment process should be clearly outlined within the document.
  • Organizational governing documents cannot conflict with University policies.
  • SGOS can assist organizations throughout the drafting and revision process by working with SGA General Counsel, a student in the College of Law approved by SGA to serve as a legal resource for SGA and registered student organizations.

If you have questions about your constitution, bylaws, or any proposed revisions, we encourage you to meet with our team for guidance and feedback. Schedule a meeting through OU Engage.
