3 & 2-Year Sideload Scholarships

3 & 2-YEAR NON-AFFILIATED SIDELOAD SCHOLARSHIPS

Overview

Most applicants for the 3- and 2-year Sideload Scholarships are College Program Midshipmen already in OU’s NROTC unit. However, students outside the program may apply through the Non-Affiliated Sideload Scholarship. This option is open to students ages 17–22 with 30–120 college credits who seek a commission in the U.S. Navy (not the Marine Corps) and are not currently involved in NROTC.

Competitive applicants will have a 2.5+ GPA and be on track to finish two semesters of calculus by the end of sophomore year and two semesters of calculus-based physics by the end of junior year. Physical standards for males include: 47 pushups, a 1:40 forearm plank, and a 1-mile run in 8:00. For females: 21 pushups, a 1:30 forearm plank, and a 1-mile run in 9:30. If deemed competitive, you will first be accepted into the College Program to reserve your spot, then invited to interview with the unit’s Commanding Officer. If selected for a 3 or 2 year NROTC scholarship, you will receive the associated scholarship benefits going forward and matriculate toward a commission in the United States Navy. Additionally, you will be required to take the applicable Naval Science classes in addition to your normal classes. Due to the additional course requirements associated with NROTC, we strongly encourage students to apply for this scholarship before their sophomore year to ensure you are able to graduate and commission on time.

These applications are typically due at the beginning of April (results annoucned in August) and are completed in conjunction with the College Program Application. If you are not awarded the scholarship, you will default to the College Program.

Recipients of any Sideload Scholarship must obtain medical clearance from the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB), pass the Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT) or the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test (PFT), and attend New Student Indoctrination (NSI) at Naval Station Great Lakes before the scholarship can be activated. Failure to do so may result in delayed scholarship activation and eventual disenrollment from the NROTC program. Scholarship Coverage

THE SCHOLARSHIP DOES COVER:

Full tuition and fees or room and board (up to $11,500). It is your choice!
Stipend for text books
- Currently $750 per academic year ($375 per semester)
Provide uniforms and Naval Science textbooks
One or two summer cruises (depending on scholarship type)
Subsistence allowance each academic month:
- Sophomore - $300/month
- Junior - $350/month
- Senior - $400/month

THE SCHOLARSHIP DOES NOT COVER:

Any fee due to withdrawing, failing or repeating a course.
Any fee for tuition above or in addition to those normally charged that are for an elective course not required in a degree or to fulfill any NROTC program requirements.
Refundable fees, such as deposits.
Charges incurred for breaking or damaging property.
Fees assessed by the School for failure to comply with any School requirement.
Fees for advance placement examinations.
Medical or dental insurance.
Any aviation associated fees to include, but not limited to, aviation instruction, licensing, or fuel fees, aircraft rental fees, ground instruction, maintenance or service fees. Students may choose to pursue a degree requiring these types of flight instruction or fees; however they will be fully responsible for all such fees associated with that training.

The length of scholarship benefits is predicated upon the student's degree plan. Students will receive scholarship benefits only for the time required to receive their Baccalaureate Degree or 4 years, whichever comes first. Students entering the NROTC program who have already earned college credit are expected to maximize the use of those earned credits towards their degree plans and strive to complete the program and commission in the shortest time possible. If additional benefits are necessary, students may request and, in some cases, be granted fifth-year benefits.
Scholarship Selectees must meet NROTC Program standards within the first academic year after the stated scholarship offer begin date listed in their scholarship notification letter or their scholarship offer will be rescinded.
