New Scheduling Guidelines

  • LNC, LWC, PBA, PED, PRA, FST – if in non-central space, will not be impacted by new guidelines.
  • LEC, SEM, DNC, INT, LLB, LNC – if in central space will conform to new policies M/W/F.

Classes must meet a minimum of 800 minutes for each credit hour per semester.

  • One Credit Hour Lecture Classes (800 minutes total)
    1. Class meets 50 minutes one day a week.

  • Two Credit Hour Lecture Classes (1600 minutes total)
    1. Class meets 50 minutes twice a week.
    2. Class meets 110 minutes one day a week.

  • Three Credit Hour Lecture Classes (2400 minutes total)
    1. Class meets 50 minutes three days a week.

    2. Class meets 75 minutes two days a week.

    3. Class meets 160 minutes one day a week.
      • One day a week classes cannot be scheduled before 5:00 p.m. (grad level exceptions, inquire with classroom-management@ou.edu).
      • One day a week classes can be scheduled beginning at 1:00pm on Fridays.
  • Four or Five Credit Hour Lecture Classes (3200 or 4000 minutes)
    1. Class meets 50 minutes a day, four or five days a week.
  • Laboratories which are given for credit must meet a minimum of 100 minutes for each credit hour per week.
  • Laboratories for which no credit hours are earned have no fixed meeting time and can be scheduled for a time period recommended by the department as long as class time complies with State Regents' regulations.
  • This system applies to all undergraduate and graduate lecture classes and all regularly scheduled seminar and discussion sections between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. It does not apply to classes in the Summer Session.

  • Each department may not schedule more than the allotted number of contact hours (a contact hour equals 50 minutes of class time) in any one hour time slot each week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., according to the allocation designated in the instructions distributed to departments. The total number of contact hours for each department is taken from the previous corresponding semester and is equal to the total number of contact hours taught in classroom activities described above.

  • Classes scheduled at 7:30 a.m., 5:00 p.m., evening classes, and Saturday classes may be scheduled at the discretion of the department.

  • Large lecture sections requiring classroom space for 100 or more students must be distributed evenly through the schedule to avoid scheduling conflicts for students who must satisfy certain degree requirements.
