What is a Provost? 

The Senior Vice President and Provost, Norman Campus, reports to the President of the University and is responsible for fulfilling the academic mission of The University. As the Chief Academic Officer of the Norman Campus, the Provost provides academic and administrative leadership for instruction, research and creative activity, and public service. The Provost is responsible for intellectual standards and academic policies; institutional planning and budgeting; resource and enrollment management; and the recruitment, retention, and development of faculty and students. He works closely with members of his staff, the college deans, and other administrative leaders to carry out these responsibilities.

Leadership and Office Responsibilities

Among the many responsibilities of the Provost’s Office is to manage the academic affairs of the University and to provide the leadership and resources that drive academic success. This includes leading efforts in instruction and scholarship; overseeing admissions, enrollment, and curriculum services; managing and coordinating the University’s study abroad programs; and providing support for The University’s cultural institutions and artistic projects.

Deans and Colleges

Norman campus has thirteen degree-granting Colleges that offer about 300 academic programs, spanning a rich assortment of disciplines and interests. The Provost’s Office works closely with the deans to oversee and implement the courses and curricula that make up University’s degree offerings as well as on a variety of administrative issues, including budgeting, space allocation, and personnel matters.
