“I’m very proud of how our Price College Sports Business students competed in the first and second round of the National Sports Analytics Championships,” Program Director Sean Daly said. “They worked hard and showed the nation that OU Sports Business is a rigorous and exciting program that can compete with the best.”
In the competition, students analyzed a basketball (player analytics) or ticketing (business analytics) data set to create five minutes of insights to present to judges to demonstrate their analytic, visualization and communication skills.
In the opening round, Brandon Smith, sports business and finance major, and Johnson, a math and sports business major, placed 7th and 19th, respectively, in the Business Intelligence division. Gómez-Torres, an international sports business major, and Kaden Colborn, accounting major and sports business minor, placed 8th and 17th, respectively, in the first round of the Game Analytics division.
The other Price competitors included Chase Borchardt, a sports business and finance major, and Caleb York, a sports business major and marketing minor, in Business Intelligence; and Grayson Blalock, a journalism major and sports business minor, in Game Analytics.
