Chris Chia

Senior Director, Alvarez and Marsal

Chris Chia is a senior director with Alvarez and Marsal with over 30 years of global upstream oil and gas industry experience. Since 2018, he has managed domestic and international management consulting engagements, including building operational excellence, business transformations, strategy design and integration, and driving financial performance. Some of his larger-scale projects have included:

• The turnaround of a Permian Basin-focused E&P company;
• Building an ESG and energy transition strategy and conducting carbon capture business development planning for an offshore Gulf of Mexico-focused deepwater E&P company; 
• A global transformation and performance improvement initiative for a private equity-owned international energy services company headquartered in the UK.

Prior to this, Chia built a career as a technical and operational expert in oilfield services. He held senior management positions in directional drilling operations, engineering design and management, and product development with Schlumberger, GE Oil & Gas, and Scientific Drilling. During this time, he has lived and worked in Aberdeen (UK), Oklahoma City, Beijing, Saudi Arabia, and Houston, where he is currently based.

Chia holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from The Open University in the United Kingdom and a Master of Business Administration specializing in Energy from the University of Oklahoma (Cohort 4).
