Alan Hepp
Vice President Commercial Optimization, Valero
Mr. Hepp currently serves as the Vice President of Commercial Optimization at Valero. In this capacity, he and his team oversee the selection and optimization of all feedstocks across the Valero refining system, with a primary focus on maximizing system profitability. Additionally, his group manages gasoline and distillate optimization for Valero’s Gulf Coast and UK refining systems. Prior to this role, he held leadership positions in Petrochemicals Development and Industrial Gases System, Strategic Planning, Capital Management and Planning, and Economics at Valero’s headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. Before transitioning to headquarters, Alan held various roles in refinery operations and engineering management, as well as assignments in refining planning, economics, and engineering. Before joining Valero, he worked for Exxon and Koch Industries in various engineering capacities.
Alan earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and a Master’s degree in Business from the University of Texas in San Antonio. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board for the Animal Defense League, the largest and oldest no-kill animal shelter in South Texas. Alan resides in Bulverde with his wife. His oldest daughter is an OU ChE alumna and currently works as a process engineer at Valero’s Benicia Refinery. His youngest daughter is a senior Mechanical Engineering student at OU.
