Cohort 14 Starts EMBA Amid Pandemic

Cohort 14 of the EMBA in Energy program at the University of Oklahoma is pictured.

The newest cohort in the Executive MBA in Energy program began the 15-month journey with a weeklong residency Aug. 5-12 on the Norman campus.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic made the experience slightly different than that of previous cohorts (social distancing and masking were in place throughout), the 17 students still completed four courses, worked with an executive coach, and spent some time socializing (at a distance) through evening dinners and campus tours.

Corey Phelps, dean of the Michael F. Price College of Business, attended a cohort dinner at Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and welcomed the students, who represent the 14th EMBA in Energy cohort.

“What you guys are doing by participating in this program is preparing for the future,” he said. “I want to commend all of you.”

Phelps encouraged them to invest in the network of relationships they have in the program.

The EMBA in Energy comprises 23 courses divided into nine learning modules for a total of 36 credit hours. Six modules are online and three are in person, of which the International Module is in Amsterdam and London.

Cohort 14 is slated to participate in an international residency week in May 2021 and a final residency week back in Norman in October 2021.

The 17 students come from Oklahoma, Texas, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio and England and work in a variety of positions in the energy industry.
