BBA in Accounting
Program Description
Accounting is often described as the language of business. The function of accounting is to measure a company’s economic activities and communicate the results of those activities to decision makers such as:
- Investors
- Creditors
- Managers
Students who major in accounting are immediately employable at:
- Corporations
- Banks
- Government agencies
- Small businesses
Other careers in accounting require specialized state licenses that students obtain after completing a graduate degree or additional graduate courses.
Degree Requirements
An undergraduate accounting student at the John T. Steed School of Accounting graduates with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Students wishing to major in accounting must first be accepted to OU and the Price College of Business.

A minor in accounting is available for students majoring in other disciplines.

Financial Assistance
Many scholarship opportunities are available for accounting students. Current students can apply through the Centralized Academic Scholarship Hub (CASH).
Incoming freshmen can apply for the John T. Steed Memorial Scholarship or Jack M. and Carole Kinnebrew Academic Scholarship, which are awarded to exceptionally talented individuals with a strong commitment to major in accounting at OU.
Freshmen awards are renewable each year conditional on continued outstanding performance as an accounting major. Consideration for these scholarships is made by completing the University of Oklahoma Application for Admission.
Postgraduate Education
Students can also choose to pursue a graduate degree in accounting. Information on the Master of Accountancy program at OU is available here.
