A Message from President Harroz – Federal Executive Orders

University Seal, The University of Oklahoma, Office of the President.
January 29, 2025

Dear OU Community,

I write to acknowledge the questions and concerns raised by recent federal executive orders and communications from the Executive Branch related to federal assistance and grants that impact the university.

While the full extent of changes and their implications are unfolding quickly across the OU enterprise, I want to reassure you that we are closely monitoring developments and evaluating their potential impact on our university. As indication of this rapid pace, the U.S. Department of Education has just confirmed today that funding for federal student loans and Pell Grants will continue without interruption, and the university’s Student Financial Center will continue to process federal aid.

The university will continue to gather all available information and review as quickly as possible to best understand its implications and next steps, and we remain committed to sharing this information at every level of the university as quickly as possible. A web page with FAQs also is being developed for sharing of information in real time.

As the state’s premier research university, we are committed to serving the needs of our students and conducting research that benefits us all. We will continue to engage with all state and federal agencies and key stakeholders to gain clarity on the scope and impact of these initial executive orders and the Executive Branch’s directives.

Thank you in advance for your patience as we navigate these early days. We appreciate your continued dedication as we move forward through this period of transition, and we remain unwavering in our commitment to the important work we do together.

Sincerely,

Joseph Harroz, Jr.
President
