Community service is at the heart of who we are. Here at PCS, we believe in
community through service.
President’s Community Scholars was established approximately shortly after former President David L. Boren arrived at the University of Oklahoma's campus. There was a strong need for student leaders who wanted to make a difference on campus and in the Norman community. In response, President Boren established PCS as a scholarship program that provided students with resources and support to become community leaders through service.
Administrated by the office of Leadership & Volunteerism, a branch of OU Student Affairs, PCS provides students the best possible experience through community service locally, throughout the state, and in society.
We serve as a PCS class for various organizations multiple times throughout the year. Whether it be prepping meals at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma or packing Easter eggs for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma - we're ready to serve.
A typical PCS class size has well over 100 students. Students are broken up into 12 small groups that are led by our PCS PALS. These small groups enact their own community service projects such as campus beautification projects and partnering with local non-profits.
Outside of community service as a class and in small groups, individual students are encouraged to engage in service projects within the Norman community or even in their hometowns.
GivePulse is the primary platform used to connect OU students, faculty, and staff with local agencies in need of volunteers. You can view our calendar of upcoming service opportunities, explore our catalog of local agencies powered by GivePulse and track your volunteer hours.
Email Vicky Bumgarner (vicky@ou.edu), OU Volunteer Coordinator, if you have any questions about GivePulse or sharing your volunteer opportunities with the OU Community.
