As cities assume greater responsibility for their own economic development, the need for economic development practitioners to set clear and attainable goals and objectives and to design policies and programs to achieve them increases in importance. Ever-present fiscal constraints and competing demands for scarce resources also make it necessary to set priorities and develop more rational approaches to economic development. In this course, you will learn the process of planning strategically and how an economic development strategy can improve the success and effectiveness of local development programs.
This course meets the elective Strategic Planning requirement for ED practitioners wishing to pursue the IEDC’s CEcD certification.
The 2016 edition of the Economic Development Strategic Planning Manual is required for this course. It can be purchased through the OU EDI or IEDC Bookstore.
