Dr. Arunava Roy is an assistant professor at the College of Professional and Continuing Studies, and he is recognized for his contributions to physics and astronomy education and research. Most recently he was engaged in online physics instruction and course design at various institutions, demonstrating his proficiency in diverse instructional strategies and learning technologies. His commitment to delivering high-quality educational experiences, both in-person and online, is a testament to his dedication to student engagement and understanding.

Arunava’s academic journey began with a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Calcutta, followed by an MS in Information Technology from Clarkson University. He then earned his Ph.D. in Physics from The University of Mississippi. His expertise lies in developing high-quality physics curricula and integrating the latest advancements in the field. As a Subject Matter Expert for Science Interactive Group, he has developed innovative physics curricula, aligning materials with educational standards, and integrating hands-on experiments and interactive learning experiences.

In his tenure as an Associate Professor of Physics at Young Harris College, Arunava created and taught introductory and upper-level physics courses. He was deeply committed to research-based learning, advising and mentoring students, and actively participating in departmental and college committees. His scholarly work includes authoring research papers and presenting findings at conferences. As a program coordinator, he collaborated on assessment reports for accreditation and program improvements.

Arunava’s community outreach efforts to promote physics education, his pursuit of external funding for academic initiatives, and his facilitation of a first-year foundations course to aid incoming freshmen further highlight his commitment to education. His contributions to the field of physics are extensive, with numerous publications on topics ranging from black holes to spectroscopy. He has been recognized with awards such as the Optics equipment grant from LASER-TEC and the SPIE Education Outreach Grant. 

In addition to his impressive academic and professional achievements, Arunava holds a certificate in Instructional Design. This certificate underscores his skill in instructional design for virtual learning experiences. His ability to analyze and select the most appropriate strategies, methodologies, and technologies to maximize the learning experience and knowledge transfer further enhances his value in higher education.

Dr. Roy’s dedication to inspiring students and commitment to education make him a valuable asset in higher education. His contributions to the field of physics and his commitment to enhancing the educational experience for his students truly set him apart.
