A University of Oklahoma team, led by Henry Neeman, is the recipient of a National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation grant in the amount of $967,755 for a new academic research data storage instrument—a massive tape archive known as the OU and Regional Research Store, which will serve as a national model for affordable, large-scale, multi-institutional storage. Oklahoma has been awarded a National Science Foundation Campus Cyberinfrastructure - Infrastructure, Innovation and Engineering (CC*IIE) networking grant.
This grant, the "CC*IIE Engineer: A Model for Advanced Cyberinfrastructure Research and Education Facilitators" (ACI-REF), will hire an ACI-REF FTE to work with OU faculty, staff and students to make effective use of the OneOklahoma Friction Free Network (see below).
The project is led by Information Technology and includes faculty and staff in the College of Engineering, the School of Computer Science, the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering, the School of Meteorology, the Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics & Astronomy, the Department of Microbiology & Plant Biology, the Center for Analysis & Prediction of Storms, the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies, the Center for Spatial Analysis, and the Earth Observation Modeling Facility.
The grant is for $400,000 and starts October 1 2014.

Oklahoma has been awarded a National Science Foundation Campus Cyberinfrastructure - Network Infrastructure and Engineering (CC-NIE) networking grant.
This grant, the "OneOklahoma Friction Free Network (OFFN)," will deploy a "Science DMZ" dedicated research network shared by OU, Oklahoma State U, Langston U and the Tandy Supercomputing Center (part of the Oklahoma Innovation Institute and OneNet, Oklahoma's education, research and government network. OFFN will include a dedicated 10G circuit shared among the four institutions.
At OU, the collaboration is led by Information Technology and includes faculty in the College of Engineering, the School of Computer Science, the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering, the School of Meteorology, the Center for Analysis & Prediction of Storms, and the Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics & Astronomy.
At OSU, the collaboration is led by the OSU High Performance Computing Center, part of the Office of the Vice President for Research & Technology Transfer, and includes the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics and the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology.
At Langston U, the collaboration is jointly led by the Department of Technology and the Department of Mathematics.
The grant is for $499,961 and starts October 1 2013.

Oklahoma has joined the National Lambda Rail! NLR is an ultra high speed network, 100 times faster than the commodity Internet and 10 times faster than Internet2. Oklahoma's Lambda Rail system will provide connections between Norman, Oklahoma City, Stillwater and Tulsa, with the primary node in Tulsa. Oklahoma is one of only two states in the southern Great Plains, along with Missouri, to get a Lambda Rail connection, and one of only 5 EPSCoR states, among 26 EPSCoR states and territories.

The Oklahoma Supercomputing Symposium 2003 was held Thursday September 25 at OU, with a Parallel Programming Workshop held on Wednesday September 24. The keynote speaker was Peter Freeman, Assistant Director of NSF's Directorate for Computer & Information Science & Engineering. Other speakers included: Stephen Wheat, HPC Principal Scientist for Intel; Greg Monaco, Director for Research of the Great Plains Network; Jose Castanos of the Blue Gene/L team.
