Become a Health Care Leader

Nurses are needed now more than ever to lead hospital and health care organization executive teams. The Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center now offers its M.S.N in Nursing Administration online. With our M.S.N. in Nursing Administration, you gain an invaluable education from our nationally recognized institution that has been inspiring future nurses since 1911.

The M.S.N in Nursing Administration is a 33-credit-hour program that can be completed in 24 months. Courses are 16 weeks long, except for Foundations of Nursing Management Leadership and the Elective, which are 8 weeks. The curriculum includes instruction in principles of health care administration, quality improvement, resource and financial management, health care law and policy, medical personnel management and managed care operations.

Upon graduation, students will be prepared to:

  • Integrate theories from nursing and support sciences to guide practice and role development
  • Use evidence-based and best practice literature to propose and initiate change.
  • Use political acumen to influence health care policy in the promotion of safe, ethical health care delivery.
  • Deliver a broad array of evidence-based, patient-centered nursing interventions to culturally diverse or at risk individuals and populations in a specialized area of practice.
  • Demonstrate expertise in a specialized area of clinical, teaching, and management/administrative practice and/or initial competence in a functional role (advanced practice registered nurse [APRN], educator and administrator).
  • Employ leadership and management skills in decision making to improve nursing care delivery and the care environment.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional teams to improve nursing care and health care services.
  • Contribute to knowledge dissemination through scholarly activities and communication.
  • Use critical synthesis to effectively manage resources and systems.
  • Demonstrate competency in information analysis, management and technology consistent with role preparation.
  • Engage in lifelong learning and professional development.

Our program prepares you to join the health care administration and management sector, which is projected to grow 18% through 2028 (BLS). Nursing management positions can earn up to $129,000, and director roles can earn up to $169,000 (AONL).
 

An Investment in Your Future

Tuition for the online M.S.N. in Nursing Administration is $24,024 for the entire program, including fees associated with the program.*

Once accepted into the M.S.N. in Nursing Administration program, you are required to submit a $250 nonrefundable deposit. This deposit will be applied to your first semester’s tuition, providing you enroll in the program.

*Tuition and fees are subject to change at the discretion of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

Program Details

Admission to the M.S.N. in Nursing Administration program is selective. The College of Nursing has the following requirements for admission:

Prerequisites:

  • Completion of a B.S.N. degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • 3.0 GPA on last 60 credit hours in your undergraduate degree.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Completion of a research methodology course with a grade of C or better.
  • Completion of a graduate or undergraduate general statistics course.

There is a two-step application process for the online M.S.N. in Nursing Administration.

STEP 1: NURSING CAS ADMISSIONS APPLICATION

  1. Complete only sections marked required at https://nursingcas.liaisoncas.com
  2. Pay appropriate application fees.
  3. Submit your transcripts.

STEP 2: OUHSC SUPPLEMENTAL NURSING APPLICATION

  1. Complete the supplemental application at: https://apps.ouhsc.edu/admissions/
  2. Enter the NursingCAS ID number from the Admission Application.
  3. Pay the $75 application fee.
  4.  For international students, please mail the following to Admissions & Records:
    • Residency documentation
    • TOEFL exam results
    • WES evaluation of international coursework
    • Immigration documentation

Note: An interview may be requested by faculty.

The M.S.N. in Nursing Administration Admissions Committee respects the investment each person makes in applying to the program. Applications are evaluated on a rolling admissions basis, ensuring that each candidate receives a prompt response to their application. Once all documents are received, the application is considered, and a decision is made.
