OU’s Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering offers a unique program focused on Natural Gas Engineering & Management – developing both the technical and business skills necessary to excel in this growing market. Offering tracks in Engineering and Management, students can customize their experience to reach their career goals. The program has been designed for students working full-time and is being offered completely online.

The Online M.S. in Natural Gas Engineering & Management is a 36-credit hour program that students complete in two years while working full-time. The Engineering track focuses on the expertise needed for to accelerate student's technical career paths. The Management track helps professionals who want to attain leadership positions and learn about the benefits of natural gas as a clean fuel with minimal environmental impact.

* Students on the Engineering track must take Fluid Mechanics/ Survey Rocks as a pre-req to Engineering Electives if they lack the relevant background or experience.

Student Experience

The program is built for working professionals in the technical disciplines of natural gas engineering, with small courses focused on engaging students and creating interaction with both faculty and the other students. Plus, each graduate will have access to industry contacts through the vast and expansive Sooner alumni network.

 

 

Faculty Expertise

The instruction consists of both OU faculty in Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering and industry professionals combining real world experience with the latest research in the field. Including in our instructors are Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy Dean Mike Stice, the former CEO of Access Midstream.

The Online M.S. in Natural Gas Engineering & Management is an investment in natural gas knowledgedesigned for immediate application among those seeking career advancement. The cost of the program is $35,460* which includes all tuition and fees.

Program Details

Admission to the online program is selective. Those interested in the program should have a competitive undergraduate GPA. Additional admissions factors may include work or service experience, demonstrated leadership potential, exceptional talents or skills, trends, or improvement in academic performance and undergraduate school performance.

To apply for the online program, students are asked to complete the following:

  • Submit your application online.
  • Submit an official transcript from your undergraduate institution and any graduate institution.
  • Submit a current resume.
  • Personal Statement: A statement of approximately two pages explaining why you wish to pursue graduate studies in the Online M.S. in Natural Gas Engineering or Management. You can also discuss what you think the natural gas market will look like in 2050
  • Letter of Reference: One Letter of Reference is required. Letters of reference should come from a professional (as opposed to personal) source and should highlight your technical abilities, leadership potential, and/or other desirable characteristics for those seeking leadership roles in the Natural Gas industry.

The admissions committee operates under a rolling admission process, and admissions may continue until two weeks before the start of classes. The committee strives to respond to all applicants within two weeks from the time a completed application is submitted.
