Chris Corbett

Dr. Chris Corbett, an Oklahoma native, oversees OU’s patent portfolio and directs patent drafting and prosecution by outside legal counsel, meeting with inventors from all OU campuses to bring a unified approach to patent protection for the University. As a Registered U.S. Patent Agent, Chris frequently drafts provisional and utility patent applications for OU inventions for filing and prosecution by outside counsel. He joined OU in 2013 after 22 years in private practice at Oklahoma’s oldest patent law firm. As one of Oklahoma’s longest-practicing patent practitioners, having drafted and/or prosecuted over 1,500 US and foreign patent applications, Chris has a deep and extensive knowledge of US and foreign patent practice. This experience serves the University well in ensuring that its inventions are patent-protected to the fullest extent possible. His special practice areas are biotechnology, pharmaceutics, biomedicine, chemistry, and biomedical, chemical, and materials engineering. Dr. Corbett’s Ph.D. was earned at the University of California, Davis, in 1985.
