Hongyu joined the OGS in May 2024. He is a seismologist and geophysicist recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His Ph.D. research focused on the crustal morphology and seismic structures of the Midcontinent region, commonly known as the Midwest, in the United States. Despite the region's seemingly flat surface, his studies have revealed significant variations within the deeper crust.

Currently, Hongyu works as a Research Associate at the Oklahoma Geological Survey. His project involves leveraging machine learning for induced seismicity monitoring and identification, specifically for carbon management purposes. With extensive experience in geological research and seismology, he aims to advance our understanding of crustal structures and contribute to innovative solutions in carbon management and geological subsurface analysis.
