The long summer days of field work were hot and dusty, however, PE students did make time for fun.

Lab work often relied on "enginuity" in the early days.

Yes, OU at one time had a working oil well and refinery on campus. It produced enough barrels each day to provide the university with gasoline, kerosene, and lubricating oils for its operations.

In the early years, students were required to complete 150 field school hours over the course of two summers before being granted their degrees.

Pi Epsilon Tau, the Petroleum Engineers Honor Society, was founded at OU in 1947.

Before the founding of SPE, OU had the PE Club.

The School of Petroleum Engineering was founded in 1924 with H. D. George as director, Fred W. Padgett, WIlbur F. Cloud, Bennie Shultz, and I. F. Bingham.
