Welcome to the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy – a college on the move! We offer nationally recognized degree programs that empower our graduates to pursue rewarding and impactful careers. We are a relatively small college situated within a comprehensive flagship university. Consequently, as a student at Mewbourne College you will benefit from innovative learning environments, small class sizes, and a supportive and inclusive community – coupled with all the benefits of also being part of large and dynamic university community.

Our world-renown faculty and staff are here to serve you. Our expansive state-of-the-art laboratory facilities support experiential learning and discovery, enabling the validation and translation of theoretical concepts to practice.

Mewbourne College’s degree programs are administered by two exceptionally strong academic units within the college: the School of Geosciences and the Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering. The School of Geosciences offers BS, MS, and PhD degree programs in both geology and geophysics. The breadth and depth of faculty specializations in geosciences are vast, resulting in great flexibility for our geosciences students and their academic pursuits. For example, the BS degree in geology offers options in paleontology, as well as environmental or petroleum geology.

Consistently ranked as one of the top three programs in the country, the Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Petroleum Engineering (PE), an MS degree in Natural Gas Engineering and Management, and a new degree program (starting in Fall 2023) in GeoEnergy Engineering. The GeoEnergy Engineering program extends the core curriculum of PE by adding important contemporary topics, including carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration; energy storage; geothermal; and hydrogen energy systems.

I invite you to explore our webpages – read about the faculty areas of expertise, analyze the curricula of our degree programs, and learn what our graduates are doing – I am confident you will be inspired and energized to pursue an academic journey here at OU! If you have any questions, please feel encouraged to reach out to me; I will be happy to talk to you and point you in the right direction for more assistance.

We are here to serve you and look forward to providing support and encouragement as you pursue your academic dreams and aspirations. It is an exciting time to learn and discover new knowledge that will ensure the continued stewardship and sustainability of Earth and energy systems that are essential for human health and prosperity, now and into the future.
