The David L. Boren College of International Studies at the University of Oklahoma has named Jalal Daneshfar as the new director of its office of International Student Services.
Before coming to OU, Daneshfar spent 32 years working in the University of Central Oklahoma Office of Global Affairs, International Student Department, where he most recently served as assistant director and PDSO.
Originally from Iran, Daneshfar came to Oklahoma in 1978 as an international student, completing an associate’s degree at Rose State College before earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UCO. Daneshfar, who greatly enjoys helping international students and has traveled to over 20 countries, looks forward to this new chapter in his career.
“I am honored and excited about this wonderful opportunity to be part of OU’s international education program,” he said.
The OU International Student Services office has been providing services to international students for over 50 years. ISS assists more than 1,500 international students and their dependents from over 130 countries across OU’s three campuses, providing advice on issues related to student visas and U.S. immigration regulations, as well as facilitating activities and programs to help students get involved in the international, university and local communities.
“International students face unique challenges in our community, and the importance of serving their needs and fostering their welfare has never been greater,” said Scott Fritzen, dean of the College of International Studies. “That’s why we are thrilled to be welcoming Jalal, with his wealth of experience and empathy, on board to lead our strong International Student Services team, and to partner across the three OU campuses to solve problems and seize opportunities for this remarkable population.”
