Gross Scholarship

Katharine J. Gross Memorial Scholarship

The Katharine J. Gross Memorial Scholarship was established to provide an annual scholarship to one outstanding student in the Honors College at the University of Oklahoma. The scholarship honors Kathy's life as friend and mentor to students and colleagues and for her contributions to the Honors College. During her twenty years of university service—and while the full time financial administrator for the Honors College—Kathy graduated from the College of Liberal Studies, completing her B.A. degree in 2004.

About Katharine J. Gross

From 1997 until her untimely death in 2011, Kathy was a valuable member of the Honors College in her role as a financial administrator. Prior to joining the College, she worked in the Goddard Health Center. Together, these obligations led to her earning the "20-Year Service" pin as a member of the University of Oklahoma Family.

Besides her service to the Honors College and OU, Kathy was also a non-traditional, returning student in the College of Liberal Studies. Indeed, as she worked in her more-than-full-time positions at the university, she also completed her B.A., something she viewed as one of the proudest accomplishments of her life. In addition, she viewed the high point of her academic achievement as carrying the College of Liberal Studies banner at Commencement in 2004. In short, Kathy put enormous faith in the importance of higher education.

Kathy's exemplary work at OU, her belief in the value of a college degree, her devotion to all things Sooner, and her gracious personality made losing her a particularly devastating blow to all who knew her. This scholarship offers an appropriate means for honoring her memory in assisting Honors College students in the years to come.

With Kathy's life and service in mind, the Honors College is delighted to offer its students the opportunity to apply for the Katherine J. Gross Memorial Scholarship.
