Why Honors

Why Honors?

The Honors College at the University of Oklahoma is a small intellectual community nestled within the larger university. The College is dedicated to providing ambitious, academically gifted students with opportunities to develop their intellectual potential in challenging classes, research programs, and a social environment that fosters cross-disciplinary conversation. Honors classes are limited in size (22 students or fewer), allowing for a more discussion-based curriculum and greater chances to meaningfully engage with faculty and peers.

Students who complete all Honors College requirements for graduation will have the Honors College designation listed on their final transcript. Students with outstanding grade point averages may be eligible to graduate with Latin honorifics—Summa cum Laude, Magna cum Laude, or cum Laude. Learn more about these requirements here. The Honors College facilities offer students a private computer lab, study and social areas, and classrooms, as well as one-on-one advising, reading groups, research opportunities, study abroad programs, and scholarships.
