Graduate Student Experience in the Research University Survey

The GradSERU Survey

GradSERU (Graduate Student Experience in the Research University) is a comprehensive survey administered to all degree-seeking graduate students in Norman-based programs on the OU Norman and Tulsa campuses, and OU Online. The survey data provides administrators, faculty, and staff with critical insights into the graduate student experience. Tell us about your experience. We’re listening. Your feedback helps create a better graduate education experience for all students at OU.

The survey takes about 30 minutes to complete. Your data will be kept completely confidential.

A Message from President Harroz

Joseph Harroz Jr.
University President

At the University of Oklahoma, the student experience is essential to our shared commitment to unlocking your greatest potential. In our constant efforts to assess the strengths of our campus and areas in which we can improve, the feedback we receive from our students – you – is essential. Your voice matters.

In 2021, the OU Graduate College administered the gradSERU (Graduate Student Experience in the Research University) survey. Graduate students provided crucial information that resulted in changes to policies and additional resources to improve the student experience by reducing burdens, improving academic unit climate, and increasing opportunities for student engagement.

By completing the gradSERU survey, you can provide vital information about your experiences in and out of the classroom that will ultimately drive change at OU.

All responses to the gradSERU survey will remain confidential. Your input is incredibly valuable as we grow our university and equip students for the future. We want to hear about the evolution of your graduate experience. Thank you for investing in strengthening our future at OU.

Live On, University,

Joseph Harroz, Jr.

President

Why gradSERU?

The results are used by the Graduate College to enhance program offerings, improve student services, and strengthen graduate education at OU, while ensuring we continue to support all students. We want to know what is working well, and not so well, in and outside of the classroom. This is your opportunity to be completely frank about your graduate experience. Your voice matters. We’re listening.

Wondering how we used the results from gradSERU in 2021? See below.

More Opportunities to Connect

We increased opportunities for graduate students to engage with the Graduate College and with each other. We’ve done this with virtual and in-person Graduate Student Life programming, virtual coffee chats with Graduate College leaders, and an Online & Remote Graduate Student Association, initiated by a graduate student, that is in the process of forming.

Communication and Transparency

We added a communications team in the Graduate College to ensure that information is readily available to students when they need it, and we are working on multiple systems improvements to increase transparency for students about their degree progress.

Better Engagement from Colleges

We worked directly with several academic units to improve their climates, increase their efforts to engage students, and in some cases reshape the leadership of their graduate programs.
