Gibbs College Faculty Present at 2022 Oklahoma Housing Conference

Gibbs College of Architecture faculty members,Professor Dave Boeck and Dr. Bryce Lowery, recently presented at the 2022 Oklahoma Housing Conference hosted by the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency (OHFA). The OHFA is an organization that works to provide housing resources to the Oklahoman community.

Dr. Lowery, an Associate Professor in the Division of Regional + City Planning, presented a talk titled “Gaps Analysis and Needs Assessment of Homelessness and Housing Security in Oklahoma.” Dr. Lowery, along with his co-presenter Dr. Christina Miller, discussed the process and results of identifying opportunities to address.

Professor Dave Boeck, an Associate Professor in the Division of Architecture, presented “Building Age-Friendly Cities and Creating Community Wide Village.” Boeck discussed the importance of provided affordable and accessible housing, as well as providing a structure to integrate seniors into the community by supporting aging in place.

This semester, students in the LA 5535 Studio: Ecological Planning and Design, led by Prof. Afsana Sharmin, took on an ambitious hypothetical project to redesign key parts of the OU campus. Their mission: to tackle the critical real-world challenge of stormwater management through innovative green design.

OU Gibbs PhD Candidate Develops Certified Citizen Planner Program

Petya Stefanoff, Chair of the Educational Committee with the American Planning Association, Oklahoma Chapter (APA-OK) and Gibbs College PhD candidate, has developed a new training program for local government officials. The program, focused on land use, zoning principles, and land development, recently certified its first graduates with Certified Citizen Planner status.
